Over-The-Counter [OTC] Supplements

Disclaimer: I am NOT a medical doctor. The information provided here is my own personal experiences, the experiences of my son and other family members, the experiences of other parents and their families, and other information I have learned from publicly-available books and the Internet. I have not consulted with a medical doctor for any of this information, except where it might be specifically noted.

None of the statements on this page have been evaluated by the US Food and Drug Administration. None of the supplements and products listed here, are intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

During my research of these supplements, I discovered that for most of them, there have been reported negative interactions and side effects if taken with certain diseases and prescription medications. I have included a few references when I thought they might be relevant to common diseases and medications used by autistic children, but I have made no effort to be inclusive. If your child has concurrent other issues, or is using prescription medication, PLEASE discuss all supplementation with your licensed medical practitioner.

All children are different, and all autistic children are different. What works for one child, may not work for another child, and in fact may cause problems for another child.

Please discuss this information with your licensed medical practitioner to determine what might be appropriate for your own situation.

If you continue reading this page, you acknowledge that you have read the above disclaimer, and you accept its terms.

My general NON-MEDICAL supplementation suggestions:

1. Always start one at a time, at low dose [like maybe 1/4 of the final desired dose] to see how your child reacts to the supplement. Wait at least a few days, preferably a week, before starting the next one.

2. Start new supplements in the morning. If it causes hyperactivity, vomiting, or other problems, you sure don't want to lose sleep!
